Scott and Edith Jordan were lifelong residents of Fairfield. He was a second-generation attorney and civic leader and Edith was a devoted wife and mother. His family was instrumental in the development of Fairfield over the last 150 years.
Mr. Jordan was born and raised in Fairfield, and is the fourth generation of his family in this community. In 1940, after graduation from the University of Iowa Law School, he joined his father’s law practice and spanned fifty years with time out for military service. The Jordan family was always interested in community service. They were actively involved in religious, educational and financial institutions as well as other aspects of quality community life.
Scott & Edith felt there was nothing more important than receiving a quality education once a student graduated from high school. They felt scholarships should be made available to students who excelled in attitude, motivation and a demonstrated ability to succeed.
This scholarship was created the Scott Jordan Scholarship upon his death in 1996, and renamed upon Edith’s death in 2019. The emphasis of this scholarship is history, political science and community service.
